Document Capture
SmartSearch provides native TWAIN based imaging support
through the SmartCapture option as well as integrates
with most any MPF's via
digital on-ramp connectors like Office
Workflow for Kyocera
HyPAS, ScanFlowStore for
Xerox, DigiDocFlow for Ricoh/Savin, SimplifyScan for Sharp, Sharp OSA, eCopy, NSI AutoStore and ScanTag for Muratec. In addition, SmartSearch can integrate with any capture software
or MFP device using standard capture and drop to a directory,
where either CSV or XML metadata files can be read and
imported
into the document repository. The XML Transform module
will allow SmartSearch to read any type of XML schema
and convert the XML data to a format supported by SmartSearch.
SmartSearch also integrates with industry leading capture vendor Kofax. SmartSearch
as been outfitted with a certified Kofax release script
that allows a direct release of documents and data into
SmartSearch from the Kofax Capture 7.5 or 8.0 interface.

SmartCapture Interface
SmartSearch
provides advanced image processing technologies with
the Capture Workflow module providing features such as:
zonal OCR, content search, PDF creator, BCR, bar code
and blank page separation and image enhancement. SmartSearch
comes pre-packed with KeyFree Indexing or OCR assisted
data entry as well as Data Xchange for internal ODBC
data updates. DataMerge services are also available
for ODBC type connections with external data sources.
Both
tools
allow end-users to quickly and easily scan
and index documents with reduced data entry requirements.

Architecture
SmartSearch is based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and built on the .NET platform. With a strong belief in the use of open architecture and industry standards, Square 9 Softworks created SmartSearch not only as a cost effective solution but also as a powerful platform to expand on. Features like Active Directory integration and SOA architecture deliver functionality still not found in many more expensive “Enterprise Level” solutions.
SmartSearch’s open architecture and adherence of industry standards ensures that
it is the right solution for the present and the future.
By storing documents in their native file format (PDF,
TIFF, JPG, PCX, TXT, RTF, CSV, Word, Outlook and Excel),
SmartSearch makes sure your documents will always be
available.
SmartSearch combines this use of open file formats with the power of Microsoft’s
SQL Server 2005 and 2008 database engine. Long established
as an industry standard, MS SQL Server delivers unparalleled
performance. Should a company wish to integrate SmartSearch
with other database applications, its open table structure
within SQL Server provides an ODBC compliant platform
for data exchange.
Hardware Requirements
SmartSearch has been certified on the 32 and 64 bit Microsoft
2003 R2 and 2008 Server platforms and the Windows XP Pro,
Vista
and Windows 7 client. The Microsoft .NET platform is required
for the operation of SmartSearch, however it is automatically
included
with the installation of SmartSearch along with the Microsoft
SQL 2005 Express database engine.
SmartSearch is a storage independent solution. Records archived within SmartSearch can be saved to any server on the network requiring only a UNC Share path or mapped drive. If a company elects to archive its records to a near line jukebox or offline on CD or DVD, SmartSearch will support either storage environment.
